 LIBRARY MATERIALS

The library materials available in the College Library includes all print, non-print materials, periodicals, and pamphlets acquired by the Library through purchase, gifts or donation  for library purposes.  All library materials are chiefly related to the subject fields of each department.

 

SECTIONS OF THE LIBRARY

TECHNICAL SERVICES DIVISION.  This division manages technical procedures before and after the library materials have been acquired.  It composes two sections:

  1. Acquisition Section – selects and purchases all library materials.
    1. Cataloging Section – catalogs, classifies, accessions and prepares records of the newly acquired books before transferring to their respective section.

 

READERS’ SERVICES DIVISION.  This division provides direct service to the library user.  It consists of the following sections.

  1. Circulation Section – handles the releasing and returning of books for home use;
  2. Reserve Section – contains books assigned by faculty members/librarian for additional readings. The reserved books are either for Room Use Only or Overnight Use;
  3. Periodical Section – newspapers, journals, magazines, pamphlet, etc. are found in this section. All materials are for Room Use Only.
  4. Reference Section –          Encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, handbooks, manuals and special collections are available in this section. All materials are for Room Use Only;
  5. Filipiniana Section – books about the Philippines covering subject areas written by Filipino and foreign authors, published here and abroad are found in this section. Undergraduate theses are also available;
  6. Internet Workstation – Computers with INTERNET connection are available in this area. The Internet/CD-ROM workstations are strictly for educational purposes only on a “First come, first served” basis. The following activities shall be extremely prohibited:
  • Internet chatting;
  • Playing computer games;
  • Accessing or surfing from any vulgar, pornographic and/or malicious sites;
  • Storing or downloading from any source or displaying, creating or   transmitting in any form of language of any obscene, distasteful and sexually suggestive electronic or digital pictures;
  • Deleting, changing or copying settings, programs, set-up and icons.

 

other Services/Facilities

  • Library Orientation/Instruction – aims to acquaint students with library facilities, services and resources.
  • Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) – contains an online detail of available books in the library.
  • Referral Service – helps the students when some needed library materials are not available in the library.   Referral letter is available at the Reference Section.
  • Library Newsletter/Publications – literary users will be informed of the services and resources offered through handbooks, brochures and postings of newly- acquired books and materials. 
  • Library Official Blog/Website – provides additional information about the library though the Net.  
  • EBSCO Online Journals – offers more than 8,000 titles of electronic journals that can be accessed in and out of the campus. 
  • Equipment Reservation – reserves the audio-visual equipment as instructional aid in teaching, presenting and/or any academic activity by the faculty. 

  

 ARRANGEMENT OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

The library materials are cataloged and classified according to the Library of Congress Classification Scheme (LCCS).  The main collection is also arranged according to LCCS meaning the arrangement of the books is by subject matter.
