The title showdown between no. 1 seed FEU-Fern and surprise finalist, National University went the distance. The Bullpups, though, ended on top, winning the first ever junior’s crown, 72-63 behind the heroics of Finals MVP Ralph Atangan.
It was a close game from tip-off until the Bullpups unleashed an 11-2 run whick put them ahead, 58-48, with 4 minutes having gone by in the payoff period.
But the Baby Tams wouldn’t go away that fast. With league MVP Jerie Pingoy and sweet shooting guard Jay-Jay Domingo leading the charge, our squad caught NU
off guard, scoring on a 12 to nothing blast to retake the lead, 60-58.
Proving to be relentless were the Bullpups.
Atangan, Paul Baliton and Toci Tansingco joined the forces close the game with a 14-3 run. And the pandemonium starts.
Erupting in tears, the FEU-Fern community is once again denied a championship. As the team exchange hugs and share the sorrow, they vow to bounce back next year and win the elusive crown.
