Last October 20, 2011, Ruben M. Felizarte Jr., 4th year student from section Noble, joined the 5th annual ARTWORK Tee shirt designing competition. Out of 1,298 participants, he was chosen as one of the top 25 finalists nationwide. Participants’ ages ranged from 13 to 30 years old, making him one of the youngest among the 25 finalists. Tee shirt designs were judged by AJ Dimarucot and Nick Automatic (a.k.a. Nicolo Nimor), photography and design experts of EverywhereWeShoot!, and poster artist JP Cuison. Last November 10, 2011, was the final judging of the top 25 tee shirts and his design garnered the special award, “Pinoy Pride Award”, which is awarded to the design that promotes Filipino values. Exhibition of the Top 25 Tee Shirts will be on December 19, 2011 up to January 2, 2012 on the Ground Floor Hallway of Trinoma Shopping Mall. The design of Ruben was based on the technique “cross stitch” since he thought that it symbolizes the patriotism of the Filipinos. The number of overlapping threads represents the number of Filipinos ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of many. The cross-stitch design contains the image of Jose Rizal which means we should be like Jose Rizal and move as one for our country. The black rectangular image which surrounds the image of Jose Rizal symbolizes the idea of Jose Rizal “Kanser ng Lipunan” and the hole on the black rectangle represents the desires of the Filipinos for peace and prosperity not only in the country, but also within the hearts and minds of each Filipino.
