Dr. Miriam R. Garcia assumed the position of Directress for the Basic Education Department in January,2005 in line     with the mission of University officials to strengthen its elementary and secondary schools offerings.

Dr. Garcia is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Science in Education, major in English, minor in Mathematics degree. She taught in her alma mater for ten years before moving to the United States, where truly a teacher by vocation, she taught in the California public school system for fifteen years. At various times, she was Project Teacher Leader for the California Reading and Literature Project at Cal State University, San Bernardino; Mentor Teacher for the Rialto Unified School District, San Bernardino, California. During her stay in the US, she obtained her Master in Education with specialization in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University and Doctorate in Education Administration from Columbus University.

She holds a California Teaching Credential for both English and Mathematics and is also a credentialed Language Development Specialist. She is listed as one of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. She has been a workshop-provider in both national and international conferences.

She is Project Developer of TELL, Teacher Empowerment through Language Learning, which aims to help in-service teachers enhance their use of the English language through intensive review of grammar, workshops on classroom presentation skills and effective writing, and sessions on the use of multimedia in the classroom. She has worked as a consultant for the Department of Education and leading call centers in the country.
